Learn to use 📚Snippets Vault

Installing 📚 Snippets Vault

  • Open the add-ons menu from a Google DocumentsTM and click on Get add-ons.

  • Search for "Snippets Vault" using the search bar in the add-on marketplace dialog.

  • Select the 📚 Snippets Vault among the results and click the Install button.

  • Accept the authorizations prompted by Google by clicking Allow

Using 📚 Snippets Vault for the First Time

  • Open the Google Doc with which you would like to use 📚 Snippets Vault.

  • Select 📚 Snippets Vault from the list of installed add-ons in the add-ons menu, then click Start.

  • Accept authorizations required by Google by clicking Continue.
  • Once the add-on has loaded, start adding snippets by clicking on the + button in the sidebar which has opened in your Document.

Managing Snippets

Snippets are brief, reusable blocks of text(paragraphs,lists,tables) or images that can be employed to speed up the creation of highly templated documents. 📚 Snippets Vault allows you to create, store, and call up your own snippets for insertion into documents you prepare without leaving Google DocumentsTM.

The 📚 Snippets Vault user interface in the Google DocumentsTM side panel presents your snippets as individual cards displaying title you have given to each snippet. Each of these cards can be expanded to reveal the content of the snippet and operations that you can perform on it, as detailed below.

You can delete each snippet individually or remove all previously saved snippets by clicking on the 🗑️ Bin box in the main menu.

Creating New Snippets

📚 Snippets Vault allows you to expand your bank of snippets by saving new snippets to your library without leaving your active document. While the add-on is open, you can create a new snippet by selecting elements(text,images,lists,tables) already available within your document. This option allows you to preserve rich formatting(hyperlinks included) you've applied to the selected text in the Docs editor. The steps below outline how to create a snippet.

  • In the Docs editor for your active document, select the element you'd like to turn into a new snippet.

  • With the element in the previous step still selected, click on the plus sign icon in the sidebar menu. A menu will open in the same window prompting for a name.

  • Enter a title for this new snippet in the corresponding input field and click on Save.

  • Find your newly created snippet at the top of your list of snippets in the sidebar.

Inserting Snippets into Google DocumentsTM

  • There are two ways to insert a snippet into your document from the Google Docs sidebar using 📚 Snippets Vault. You can execute a 'quick insert' without expanding the card corresponding to the snippet or, if you wish to review the content of the snippet first, you can unroll the card to reveal the Insert button.
  • Quick Insert
    • Click to place your text cursor in the document at the position where you would like to insert a snippet.
    • In the sidebar, hover your mouse cursor over the snippet you wish to insert.
    • A button will appear to the right of the snippet title. Click this button to insert the snippet into the doc.
    Regular Insert
    • Click to place the cursor in your document at the position where you would like to insert a snippet.
    • Unroll the snippet you wish to insert by clicking the Unroll button to the left of snippet's title.
    • Click Insert in the bottom left of the expanded card for the snippet.
